Community Engagement is the consultancy business of Dr Anne Johnson. Anne is driven by the opportunity to work with organisations, government departments, and individuals to ensure that their engagement endeavours are successful. Anne’s goal is to provide innovative and practical approaches and solutions to meet you and your community’s needs. Anne’s passion for the field of community engagement is underpinned by the belief that “Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much” (Helen Keller).
Another passion of Anne’s, and area that she is highly skilled in, is ‘health literacy’ and enhancing the communication outcomes between health services and consumers. Improving the health literacy of health consumers and the Australian public is vital if improvements are going to be made in the health of individuals and the nation. Health literacy is defined as the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. Anne firmly believes that for health consumers to become more health literate, health services need to be able to communicate more effectively through a range of written formats (information sheets/pamphlets/posters, web site, media) and work with consumers from various backgrounds to develop relevant health information. Anne has been awarded a SA Premier’s Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship to study health literacy research, education programs, policy and integration into health service accreditation processes in Chicago and Sydney in 2012.

Anne is available for one off consultations, short term consultancies, and longer term consultancies. Rates can be negotiated to suit your needs, with the availability of hourly rates, daily rates, and rates for longer term work.
